Perhaps Psychotic
Name's Toby, descendant of Laputian royalty. I'm generally a cool guy, reading's definitely my thing. I've got some magic ability from my ancestors, but I'm not allowed to use it unless it's an emergency. Pfft, like I'll listen to that...

“Romances are good, as long as they aren’t Twilight.” Tobias remembered reading Twilight and feeling as if he had lost about 30 points of IQ. He nodded. “Yeah, I’ve read a few romances, but I very much like History and Sci-Fi… and some fantasies as well. The Silmarillion is a compilation of Tolkien’s other works on his world of Middle Earth.” Tobias smiled. “Nicholas Sparks’ books were made into movies, right? I had a friend who wanted to drag me to one of them once…”

“Oh, I have a friend who likes to read Sci-Fi. A few of his favorites included some Utopia types of novels such as The Hunger Games and Divergent,” she explained to him. Leta never really found interest in Sci-Fi or History books. The brunette was too attached to the supernatural romance. Fairy Tales were good as well, but she couldn’t sit through one entire long book or she’ll fall asleep. “I’m not a fan of Tolkien’s books because I would fall asleep if I read a book that is over five to seven hundred pages long.” The girl pulled out a book and examined it from cover to cover. “Yes, Sparks did have his books become movies, one of my all-time favorites is A Walk To Remember.”

Toby laughed a bit. “Tolkien’s books are long, but they’re very creative. A good blend of fantasy and linguistics and history. There are always undertones too.” He shrugged. “I tried to learn Elvish once. I can write in Tengwar, but I can’t speak it very well yet. I know, I’m such a geek. But I love languages. I’m fluent in three non-English tongues.” He reached over and pulled out another book from the shelves. “The Hunger Games is good. I haven’t finished the series yet, because I got distracted by Fire from Heaven, The Persian Boy, and Funeral Games. Mary Renault is an excellent writer, and I got so absorbed in her books, I forgot about other things for a while.”

Tobias sighed, he had finally finished the book he had been reading. It had taken a few hours longer than he had anticipated, but he had kept up with his book-a-day schedule. He smiled at the new faces. “Hello~ Are you looking for a specific book?” He put his book back in the bag that hung off the back of the chair he had been sitting in. “My name’s Tobias, but you can call me Toby. Everyone does. Who are you?”

Brent narrowed his eyes, wondering on whether Tobias will refuse or not. If he did, he would think of him as timid and weak, and then shake his head and call him a waste. And then a bit of him would be upset too, because the power that Tobias posessed was nearly tangible. Even though it was light magic, or more commonly referred to as good magic, it was strangely powerful. He could tell by the vibrations he felt in the air. Either that was Tobias’s power or Brent imagining things. Usually these light magic folks tend to find the faults of dark magic- which there were many. Brent dreaded the day when he would find the faults- that is if he could.

He calmed down and then saw the worried expression on Tobias’s face. “And if you’re worried I’ll tell anyone about your powers, forget it. Not many will believe you, and those who do fall in the darker side. Really, all the people here with magical powers follow the more evil side. You either have to join us or be alone and perish. Eventually.” He then quirked an eyebrow quizically at him when it looked like Tobias had some kind of awakening. Perhaps it would do him better to ignore it for now.

“You can stop time, and that is a power I envy. So time is no matter. I just want to see some of your powers out of curiosity. Perhaps we can learn some neutral magic together- magic neither good nor bad, but just magic in its purest form. Whatever suits you, I’m not going to be pushy.” He shut his blue book and then stood up, turning to put the book back in the shelf and waiting for the other’s decision.

Tobias nodded. “Neutral magic sounds like a good idea.” He shrugged a bit. “I only learned that time trick because I wanted to read in peace. I have a lot of people who like ot bother me when I read.” A slight pause while Tobias pondered wheter Laputian magic was neutral or not, “I suppose all magic is neutral, and is only made ‘good’ or ‘bad’ depending on who’s using it.” He smiled a bit.

"I guess my magic can be dark when I get upset, but it’s light when I’m happy. That’s how magic works… or at least Laputian magic. It responds to our feelings." Tobias hoped that Brent would never have to see him upset, or without a book or his crystal, not because he didn’t like the surge of power, but because it was possible that he’d hurt someone.

And as far as he knew, Brent was the one person in the school who could teach him magic, or at least improve his skills. So in that matter, he didn’t want to do anything to push Brent away. But he had to be cautious. Caution was a good thing. “I’d enjoy training with you, if you don’t mind being a sort of mentor to me… I’ve not honed my skills as much as I’d like…”

“Well, reading’s awesome, so I don’t blame you for coming here to get out books. My parents provide me with most of mine, but there are some that they don’t have…” He nodded. “Yeah, I’m new. Somehow I got a job at this library. Not complaining though. Books are like my best friends.” He shrugged a bit. “It’s nice to meet you, Leta.” A smile crossed his face. “So, if you’re looking for anything in particular, just tell me, and I’ll get it for you. I know where every book here is.”

Another friend, who was interested in books. That made Leta happy. She knew not many people actually would have the patience to read. “I have my own miniature library in my room,” Leta told him. “I mostly prefer romance books. Not that I don’t like other books, I just feel more connected with them. My favorites are from Nicholas Sparks, Richelle Mead, and P.C. Cast. Though Richelle Mead does more supernatural stuff.” The brunette shrugged. Not many people knew of her books compared to the Twilight Saga.
